Nintendo has done the pass-by thing before with Metroid Prime Hunters.  I don't think it's ever really worked for anyone, but since they said at E3 that 3DS will be incorporating a feature like that system-wide, it may be something that they can improve on, or we've just gotta' get used to.

As you say, the 3DS is adding that as part of the system firmware. That should greatly increase the usefulness of that feature. But, even then, it's more of a feature of the Japanese with their packed subways and such.

I feel that I never walk past anyone with a DS.  And if I do, I never have my DS with me.  I really only carry my wallet and phone.  Unless Nintendo does an iPhone app (doubtful), I don't see myself carrying the 3DS with me everywhere.

A friend of mine carries his DS everywhere he goes and I make fun of him for doing so.

On the list of names of new Pokemon, you notice a few things.

1. They have stupid an unthoughtful names.
2. They have 'new moves' which are in fact not new.
3. The description of them makes them sound like they put no effort into them.
4. They are still using the same personalities with them. It would be nice if they had new personalities for a new region.

Live Chat sounds pretty cool, but it won't be with random people that you battle online like in XBOX Live it disappoints me a bit. I also don't see the point of it as you are basically in the same room on Local wifi, so it doesn't make sense to have voice chat put in.

I also like the new Triple Battle thing because your Pokemon don't get hurt against your own moves. I found that a problem for me.

This Tag-Mode doesn't appeal to me. They tried to do it in Nintendogs and it just didn't work. Maybe it's just the population of Australia, but who carries their DS around with them on Bark Mode in public?

Just wanted to add that they said DS and 3DS exclusive. Looks like they came through with this one.

That my 2 cents:)

Well, those are the Japanese names, so I wouldn't judge the names yet. But even the English names have always been a little cutesy.  Even the original 150 had kind of play-on-words type names.

Yeah, but the names probably have nothing to do with its appearance.

Did I mention that it is for 3DS as well?

Of course it's for 3DS.  The 3DS is backwards compatible.

No, but could this potentially mean that there would be another version for 3DS?

There is absolutely no way there will ever be a 2nd, 3rd or 4th 3DS model.

NO, I meant that there might be a Pokemon Black/White version for the 3DS. Is it really that hard to get what I'm saying?

Why would there be a 3DS version?

Because the 3DS supports a feature you think there's a 3DS version of the game?

I don't think it's out of the question to suppose that there might be a 3DS version.  I mean, looking at the environments for the city, it kind of makes a lot of sense.

However, there are a few things that fly in the face of it:

  • Nintendo hasn't really said that the game will be for 3DS; just DS.
  • The American release date (Spring 2011) makes sense with the launch of 3DS because by then the 3DS will most likely be out or close to out, however the Japanese release of Black/White (September 18th, 2010) could be well before 3DS.  Unless 3DS were to come out super early.

All in all, the above reasons aren't that strong, and if the 3DS is out for holiday season by September 18th in Japan, then it is at least plausible.  It actually wouldn't surprise me given that Nintendo recently stated that changing the final design of the 3DS much.  Who knows, but the inclusion of a feature the DSi can do as well isn't a clue at all because we know the 3DS is backwards compatible and has a front-facing camera.

It may be 'mysteriously delayed', you know. They'll have a version for the 3DS. Maybe not for Japan, but for the rest of the world.

New stuff.

So, apparently, and I really think this is a gamble, you won't see any of the old Pokemon until after you beat the game.  Let me repeat that: until you beat the game (like the Elite Four), you will only encounter Pokemon from the new generation.

Masuda posted about this on his blog, and gave a few reasons as to why they wanted to do this:
Quote
  • "It's like playing something completely new, similar to when I played Red & Green"
  • "You don't even know the type of the Pokemon, so you're surprised at the skills"
  • "There are only Pokemon that you've never seen, so it's fresh and new"

So I'm sure you guys are like me, and probably had the initial feeling of having the wool pulled over our eyes, but I think they may have a point in some respects.

  • I do think that they will succeed in making it feel new. I actually do think that on a psychological level, it will feel newer.
  • As for not knowing the types.  I think this might be wrong.  Anyone who knows the types from previous games probably knows about sites like Serebii and Psypokes.  Oh yeah, and there's guidebooks.
  • Alright, maybe it will feel fresh and new.  Though I think that most of the heavy lifting for that feeling will come from the game actually being "fresh and new" in terms of gameplay and new things to offer.  We've have new Pokemon a'plenty for several generations of games now, and I don't think people attribute the newness of the games to that.
